Program Description
The Nurse Educator post master’s certificate is available for those students who have earned a Master of Science in Nursing (M.S. or M.S.N.) degree or those with a master’s degree in a related discipline. The postgraduate certificate program requires 12 semester hours of study and can be completed in four semesters. The postgraduate degree prepares nurses in an advanced practice role with competency in one of three educational areas: academic educator, staff educator, or patient educator.
Admission Requirements
In addition to the admissions criteria established by the Graduate School, the program also requires the following:
GPA and/or previous degree and coursework
Applicants must posess a B.S.N. from a regionally accredited college or university and a nationally accredited nursing program with at least a 3.00 on a 4.00 scale for the last 60 hours of undergraduate work.
The candidate must have graduated from a nationally accredited master's program in nursing (M.S. or MSN) or a master’s degree in a related discipline.
Required coursework:
- Graduate or undergraduate level statistics course
- Undergraduate nursing research course
Essay or Narrative Statement

Letters of Recommendation
Three letters of recommendation including one from a current or recent supervisor are required.
Resume and/or Experience
Applicants must be a registered nurse eligible for licensure to practice in North Carolina and have one year of clinical nursing experience within the past five years.
A resume is required.
Additional Requirements
An interview is required.
