EDRD 320 - Foundations of Literacy Development


Research, theory, and instructional practices for teaching reading with an emphasis on emergent learners. The course focuses primarily on using evidence-based instructional practices for teaching all learners the following: concepts of print, phonological and phonemic awareness, alphabetic principle, phonics, and fluency. There is an emphasis on assessment-based instruction. The objectives of the course are designed based on current research on reading development and instruction and are aligned to the science(s) of reading. Coursework and objectives will be revised, as needed, based on new research. This course includes an extensive field component.

Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in EDCI 201 .
