Major Requirements


Declaration of a major in Clinical Laboratory Science does not guarantee admission into the program. Students must formally apply and be admitted into the program and before beginning the professional sequence of courses and/or proceeding into clinical placements. In addition to the academic requirements below, students are expected to adhere to the technical and professional standards of the program. For the most up to date information regarding these standards, program suspension, and termination refer to the Clinical Laboratory Sciences program website linked from the School of Health Sciences.

Minimum GPA Requirement: 2.5

When do students apply? Students may apply for admission to the program when they have completed, or are concurrently completing, all liberal studies and program requirements. Completed applications must be received in the program office by February 15. Admissions decisions are announced in writing to applicants by March 15. Interviews are required.

Required Pre-requisites: Completion or currently completing all liberal studies requirements.

Retention in the Program: Students must maintain an overall GPA of 2.5 and must make a C+ or above in all required CLS courses (CLS 300, CLS 301, CLS 303, CLS 304, CLS 306, CLS 308, CLS 309, CLS 310, CLS 311, CLS 312, CLS 406, CLS 485, CLS 486, CLS 487, CLS 488, CLS 489). Students who make below a C+ in any of these courses will be allowed to repeat them one time before being dismissed from the program.

Additional Information: An accelerated curriculum available for associate degree medical laboratory technicians normally allows completion of degree requirements in two years.
